It's been more than a month since I last updated this space. I would say it has been quite a month. I'll need probably another month to let it all sink in and reflect all the events / moments that took place in the month. From meeting up with friends, to traveling to two different countries, one outstation trip to crazies in office and life moments which are significant, it's certainly not how I would have anticipated the events to unfold but nevertheless, I am blessed that in all of "these", God has been the 'more than' in my life. He has been more than enough. He has sustained and strengthened me in the ups and downs.

Warning : This is a long post but I'll be short since I'm still in recovery mode from Jakarta having just landed this morning. ;)

So I was given a week's notice to go down to Jakarta. Quite crazy having to squeeze this trip in since it's already so busy in office. Anyway, this is the only time we can squeeze in as it's International Conference on Financial Crime and Terrorist Financing next week at Shangri-La so will just have to make do with a 3 days 2 nights short trip. Really pack 😣 This trip, I had another colleague from the Project Management Office who came with me and because she needed to come back to KL by 4pm, we settled for Malindo instead of MAS due to the flight timing. I'll choose MAS over Malindo for the following reasons, the food and air flight entertainment.

One funny thing happened during the trip. After all the hospitality given by the team, I agreed to go for drinks after work so that I can return the hospitality. I am so naive to think that drinks after work would refer to tea rather than alcohol. πŸ™„Who would think that a muslim country would drink alcohol. I had sparkling juice instead while the group of all guys had Carlsberg beer. While I did not particularly enjoy the cigarette smoke over drink session, I learned that there are many hiking places in Indonesia.

Boarding from KL to Jakarta on Thursday, 31 Oct 19. Love the view of the sky.

Love the morning buffet spread. This is what you call a hearty breakfastπŸ˜‚ It was quite a bummer that I can't have pork or fried chicken. A buffet that has a pork station which is unheard of in Malaysian Hotels. This fast has been quite a challenging one! I never knew it was harder than fasting meals. I realised how reliant I am to these πŸ₯“πŸ—πŸ₯©πŸ˜πŸ˜’

Stayed at Fairmont Jakarta. I wish I can pocket the money for the accommodation instead. It's a really nice stay. Sad that it was hazy and the schedule was too pack if not a nice swim would have been nice. Nice view facing the golf course and they warm the toilet seats and have super cool toilet functions.

Some of the photos from the trip. Didn't manage to see much of Jakarta except the hotel, the mall in between the office and the hotel and the airport. Was treated with lunch by the Head of Compliance to Indonesian food at Remboelan, then we had Nasi Padang for dinner at Sari Ratu. Next day after a heavy breakfast, the team bought Monami kueh mueh and a huge plate of fruit rojak. I had none since I was just so full from breakfast. Lunch was at Bakmi GM but I could hardly eat still. Then dinner or rather just drinks at De Luca.

Seeing the beautiful photos of Annapura, I wish I could have been on the trip too although a bit scared since it does sounds tough. Well, I'll settled with this map overview, the pictures and videos that came through. 😊

Last Monday to Wednesday. It was a crazy Worship Central conference because I was trying to complete my assignment which was due at 3pm. Missed the first plenary session but I had a good time still. Stressed from work and assignments, my shoulders and back were aching but I felt so much better after worship. I left wanting more worship sessions!

Lunch with the ladies. We all came in red without any prior planning. The restaurant design is quite unique but food wise nothing to shout about. I ordered Chicken 65 and realised how silly a move since I can't have fried chicken. 😭 So I had no meat at all.... 😫

October Birthday boys! Followed of course with scrumptious meals. Tjoe's celebration was in Sg Chua while Dad wanted to have his in Seremban. So Seremban it is! Mannn.... all these food celebration and it appears that the family are fried chicken / pork lovers... 😣 This is becoming quite a vegetarian fast...

It's been so busy in office that I settled for food delivery. Tried dahmakan for the first time and while the taste was okay I don't like my food cold. So blessed that my colleague decided to sweeten my day with cake and other snacks occasionally. Really blessed! Apples which came as a mid week surprise was a sweet surprise. Huge nutritious apples that kept me going. Kept the doctor away alright... hehehe... Hahaha... can I have stone fruits too (nectarine, peaches) ? πŸ˜›

It was a mini family reunion and a trip back to Taiping. A 2 days 1 Night trip to Taiping. It is not an event for celebration but it was a time of reunion with relatives and a siblings get-together road trip at least on the way down since the parents went a day earlier. No KFC fried chicken or wan tan mee char siew or pork in prawn mee..... this is quite a torture..... 😫

Tired a new cafe at Masjid Jamek. Short lunch but it was a good time catching up with former compliance colleagues

Farewell lunch for Daniel (Group Chief Compliance Officer) at Lemon Garden, Shangri-La. More fooood πŸ™ˆ I need to stop all this buffet eating... not helping my waistline / dress size.
So I finally agreed to move from my seat to make way for the new joiners. My new work space, quite secluded.

Shi Ni's wedding! The highlight of the wedding other than the wedding couple as was meeting up with former HSBC colleagues. Christine who gave me the foundation that I needed in this field and now her husband Daniel that I have become great friends with. Love this couple! & Jo Anne who was a great big sister to me throughout my time in HSBC and I would say still is.

Took Levina to try Betel Leaf and Jai Hind (Punjabi food). Both places that I don't mind going.

Mel's engagement dinner with the gang. Sam brought Gabriel who had an interesting conversion story of how he came back to Christ. God is amazing! He seeks us out no matter how far we've gone. Well, we had such a good time that I nearly broke my fast on the very first day of the fast itself. πŸ˜…

5 days work trip to Cambodia. It was so nice that Hou flew in on Wednesday and we spent 2 Days and 2 nights together in Cambodia. He made my trip so much more interesting and pleasant. A good brother sister trip.

A few photos of our food consumption. Bon Appetite!

Family Mart moments. Finally tried Belgian Dark Chocolate. It was goood.
That's about all the updates... Monday awaits with work, conference and sptc assignment. Whatever is up head I have this assurance that I can rest and be secured that my life is in the hands of none other than the maker of this universe.

heart4God
When can I have fresh smelling air again? Missing the morning mist, sun, the clouds and the rain!! Lord, send the rain..... pls....

So the fast is over. Yipeee!! This means I can snack and have my desserts. Unfortunately, the haze has been bad and work has been crazy (no more meetings over lunch pls..πŸ˜–) that I've not been able to have meet up lunches. Had detox healthy eating for the week. Tried blue pea flower tea which wasn't too bad tasting.

Harvard Mentor Briefing @ Tiger Bank Library
Despite the busyness at work, I'm grateful for my colleagues. Truly your company of people matters. Storms are more bearable with good company. You wade through the storm together... With that said, I will be celebrating my one year anniversary in Tiger Bank this week. πŸ˜‹πŸ…

I'm also grateful for the opportunity that God has given me to work with the OA community although I don't really know what I can do for these children except to just show them the love of God and pray they'll remember right through their golden years that Yahweh is God. Sometimes I wonder whether it is a necessity for them to live up to our modern standards of living. I can't quite tell whether modernization will do any good for them. They seem to be happy and contented even though they can't read, write, or for that matter they don't even know their own names or their own age. They only know they are called 'Chi Chi', 'udang', 'ibut', 'bagan', etc and maybe that is enough. O that they will live out their God given destinies.

Well, attendance has been quite good although the older children (i.e 15-17 years old) have gone off to work. Somehow there are still new children walking in from time to time which makes me so puzzled because the OA village isn't very big. Where are these children from? Anyway, a handful of new children came last Saturday so I did another round of photo session so that I'll be able to remember their names and also to give them a hard copy photo for their memory. A once a year affair.

A new week starts tomorrow but not to fret... power up with vitamin C πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ🀣

Minutes, Hours, Days, Months can just pass by so quickly. It's already mid September. I can't believe how time flies... I can move from activity to activity without slowing down and giving much thought or enjoying the moment. Just going about 'doing' one thing to another with the occasional 'big moments' that disrupt my normal routine. But despite the activities and busyness, I'm thankful for the little moments (when I slow down enough to savour them). Each moment is precious even though time is short.

It would also be helpful if spotify would give me less choices... Just one week of random listening to spotify and spotify has doubled my Daily Mix from 3 Daily Mixes to 6 Daily Mixes. ... less choices pls... Though I've discovered some nice songs...

Well, some of my small but big love moments...

Didn't get to hike and or play badminton today but managed to finally catch up with Wei Mun after postponing it a few times. We went to Nanyang Cafe as she said the food here is good. The polo bun reminded me of the polo bun I had in Hong Kong but not something I would queue for though the queue is long.

I saw Ambrosia apples at Village Grocer and decided to buy a pack to see if it's really as nice as what Esther and Dalvin describes it to be. Verdict...... πŸ€” okay taste much better than the apples I've eaten. Ambrosia does change my perspective on apples but I still love my stone fruits. But definitely these apples are not too bad... Mum and Hou likes it too.

Sometimes you just do random things like driving all the way to Klang just for Foo Chow (Hock Chiew) food @Jit Ben Restaurant. My older's sister brilliant idea but it was a nice short trip over the weekend. Quite different from our usual Bak Kut Teh or Seafood trip to Klang. Quite authentic and one of the better ones I have tested though I still prefer mummy's version of red wine chicken and sweet sour fish maw. 😍

Pre-Malaysia Day celebration in church. I must say I was quite surprise to see so many people (both young and old) in traditional attire. I guess it's uncommon to see a Chinese in punjabi attire that I had stares from the petrol attendant and the people at the massage parlour. I wanted to tell them, "Hey! We are Malaysians okay? What is so unusual?"

Went for Colin and Debbie's workshop session the previous weekend and listening to him again last Sunday. My takeaways - The impossible is possible. Leave the shallow waters.
Colin shared with me during the workshop that what is required in this season and age is to be able to think outside of the box. Creative thinking that comes from God for God given solutions. 😬 "Lord, help the uncreative me."

I quite like this photo. We look like University students.. πŸ€£πŸ˜†

Okay "rush-ian" slow down and listen. God is working in the little things.

Heartbeats only happen one at a time, one at a time

You can't rush a moment so don't even try, don't even try
There's a symphony you're missing
If you only listen you'll find...
Big magic in the mundane

The big picture in a small frame
Everything is sacred when you take time to notice
Big love happens in the small moments

I realised that throughout my working career, I've always studied while working. I've taken Chinese classes, completed the Children Ministry Training Programme certification, studied a year of Biblical Greek, completed my professional certification (Chartered Institute of Management Accounts), completed my Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering and now doing my degree in Theology, Ministry and Missions.

My colleagues are puzzled when I say I'm doing my degree. The first expression would be, "You don't have a degree? I thought you are a graduate?" and the next question will always be "What degree are you doing?" and because I know the reaction I will get when I tell them what degree I'm doing, often times I try not to mention it and tell them "Yeah, I'm doing another degree. I love studying." Not that I really love studying in particular but it seems like that answer appeases their curiosity. But for those who do find out what I'm studying, the next questions are almost always, "What course is that?" followed by "Why, do you want to be a priest/ pastor?"

So why am I doing Bible College? Well, it's something I have wanted to do. I wanted to go off for a year or 2 right after finishing my SPM but it wasn't something that I could do back then. Then I tried finding for opportunities throughout my working life but somehow nothing seemed to work out. And August 2018, about a week before the first week of class while sitting in office, SPTC came to mind and I browse the website. Since I don't know much about SPTC, I thought I'll just drop a "query" to find out about the course which in turn became an interview, a book review submission for admission and here I am today in Year 2!

God does has His own timing. His own ways. Reading my journal entries, Bible College was one of my prayer items when I was in College. Well, God answer that prayer many years later but He answered that prayer way much better than I expected. I wanted to go overseas and study but God sent UK to Malaysia so that I can still keep my job (yes, financing wise would have been crazy overseas) and still study Theology. I'm amazed and truly humbled that God would give me such an opportunity. What more to study Theology in an environment that values worship and ministry and not just focus on the theology aspect of it.

I remember end of July 2018 when I got my car (yes, another story of God's amazing-ness) and the number plate was BPP,  I felt that the Lord was telling me to 'Be Prepared'. For what I don't know but I do know that this season of studying Theology is part of that "being prepared".

And so far, I've been blown away many times over with all the crazy discoveries about God as I dig in Scripture and follow the ancient paths of the Church. Yes, there are days when it challenges what I have believed about God but hasn't that always be the tension of the church? To test everything? So that this faith that I have is 'real'. It's not borrowed, it's not someone else's, it's mine after I struggle and wrestle through it.

But no, knowledge is not to puff up. It's not to feel good about how much I know about God. Such a pity if all these studying is merely for a certificate or just to have more knowledge. No, studying theology has made me realised how little I know and how much more dependent on God I need to be. I'm glad that the experience has also helped me in my ministry to the OA and the people that God has placed around me.

Is there more to this? Well, I'm sure there will be. Trust God to take you out of your comfort zone. Blow your mind and leave you breathless. If it's something that I can plan or imagine then it won't be God, it would be me. So for now, it's taking the word - wrestling with it,  drown in the reading materials and struggle with the assignments but it will be worth it!

I'm quite relieve the weekends are here. It's been a long week at work, I feel like 24 hours is not enough... I'm so thankful for the Public Holidays in September. I need extra energy booster to survive! O well.... On to other stuff...

Friday lunch out - When East meets West. Mash with Curry Lentils and Green Curry and grilled brinjal? First time trying it... not bad...

Last Monday last minute plans...

Rachael and Fuk Fui's first time hiking Gasing. Not bad for a first time. No broken bones but maybe a few scares..

and thereafter Mykori tea for the Birthday Girl.

Now, what's for this long weekend? Can there be more long weekends every month?
heart4God
Approximately 3 more weeks and I'm bond free. One year has indeed flown by so quickly. The past one year can be summarized as 'unpredictable'.

When I sign the offer letter, I was prepared for the bureaucracy, slow paced culture, conservative dressing and maybe 'conservative eating' . Well, all that did happened with much much more, more than I anticipated or was prepared for.

I wasn't prepared to lose my boss within 6 months, to be boss-less for 3 months, get a new boss, restructuring, an extension of job scope to my already stretched scope, a wide variety of daily dramas and politics.

Rewind to a few months back... I was ready to throw in the towel especially when my boss was asked to leave and things were quite tough in office. With an offer of another FI buying me out and an increase in salary... it just seem so tempting. I'm thankful that God affirmed through a visiting speaker at the Christian Fellowship, the day when I received the fateful news with the following words "I want to reestablish your purpose here. To be a light and testimony". He shared that he felt that was what God wants some of us at the fellowship to hear. God is indeed timely as these were words during my devotions too. A much needed word and encouragement. I'm also thankful for friends that kept me going along the way by praying with me, processing my thoughts / feelings with me and reminding me of the the reason why I came in the first place. Without the support, I'm not sure if I could have stayed on.

In hindsight, I'm glad I stayed on. Things worked out somehow. In light of the adversity, the team bonded together. God brought new ones on board that made the journey lighter. Yes, there are so many of my department colleagues joining the Christian Fellowship now toooo.. Although, I'm overwhelm with the workload and the ongoing dramas and politics, but the 'experience' as a whole has been invaluable. I don't know how many more days or months or years, the Lord will have me here but He has promised - Deuteronomy 31:6 So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

It's such a coincidence too that Sue and I celebrated the last working day of August with my former boss & Lit Seen and celebrated my new boss birthday on the first working day of September. Didn't know it was Inn Sann's birthday till almost lunch time but managed to squeeze in a random lunch treat for her with Sue and a department surprise bday tea. Almost seems as if it's a close of one chapter and the beginning of the next.

Well, I thank God for the past one year. It's been a crazy ride. Truly unpredictable but I'm safe in the hands of the God that more than predicts - He KNOWS the future. Thank you too to the lovely people that has journeyed with me in this roller coaster ride.

Inn Sann's surprise bday tea

Joseph's bday treat & Lit Seen's official farewell lunch

Yes, its beginning to feel a little homey...

Our self sponsored fridge (heavily sponsored by the boss) came on Friday and it's up and running today! Property came and install a new plug point. The 'milo' trick works with adults too. ;)

Can't believe how 1st year of Bible College has passed so quickly. I'm still amazed that God has made this possible for me.

2019/2020 Cohort

First class of the week

Year 2 starts of with a week long intensive week. Not having to travel to and fro from home helps especially with work equally demanding. The extra sleep is a plus point and it's great not needing to navigate through the crazy KL traffic.

Today especially has been a bummer day. My shoe gave way in the morning and I had to go to my car and change them. This was a blessing in disguise as I would otherwise not know that the sheltered parking was dripping water that contained rust on my car windscreen. (horror of horrors) but yes, still bump over the rust stains on my car windscreen which I can only get it off probably over the weekend and I hope it does come off.

Stained glass

Then I injured my foot not sure if I sprained it or its a muscle pull and had to limp around in office... and it didn't help that I was late for class (again... But even later today) and arrived just after worship ended.

And what more, the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury sat next to me the whole of class time and was eager to be my discussion partner... How nerve wrecking...but awesome!!! More like he was giving me private tuition since I don't have any valuable information to bring to the table. He's so humble and really inspiring. He talks about God with a sparkle in his eyes.
With Dr Rowan Williams, 104th Archbishop of Canterbury

Interestingly, while walking back to YWCA, I realised I'm not limping anymore. Thank God for that! :)
