A New Year a New beginning?

New Year somehow gives a feeling of hope, a breath of refreshing and brings a certain newness. The start of 2017 was daunting and I wondered if I would be able to make it thru.

Now that 2017 has ended and 2018 has arrived, this year feels very different from last year.

Knowing how God has carried me thru my difficult season, I know with certainty that He will carry me through 2018 and the years ahead, however many there are.

I've learned that there is no other way of learning of the deep assurance that He is God and that He will never leave me not forsake me but in the valley of adversity.

I know that I've still got a long way to go and a lot more to learn but these moments of despair, trials, pain have brought about lessons and depth that I believe are more valuable than a masters program. Truly, not a 'course' I would willingly sign up for but perhaps a much needed course.

Standing at the water fringes of 2018 knowing that I'm only wetting my feet and the water will come ankle deep, then knee deep etc, I know that He will not only keep me afloat but He will give me the strength and ability to swim in the deep.

A retreat before the year ends

I wasn't born in Sitiawan or Taiping but when I do go to these towns, I feel a part of me being connected. Hometown of both my parents. Great towns with great stories. The methodist revival in Sitiawan and the brethren revival so to say in Taiping. Missionaries from overseas came to these towns and preached the word of God.

Lord, do it once again! Breathe upon this nation again. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done in Malaysia as it is in heaven.

Do not forget my family.

Hills and Valleys

I love the outdoors and the adrenaline rush that it brings. Yes, which also explains why I can't sit still and love to be on my feet, moving and doing something. The past 2 years has been a time of unlearning and relearning.

From working in a place where to find a 30 mins of breather in office would be heaven to a place where there are days where it can be a challenge to even find 30 mins of something to do it was a shock. It was hard to adjust but more than that I couldn't understand why. Similarly in every other area of my life I thought that after my "learning" moments in Uni and in what I thought was the construction phase in my life, I thought that it would now be 'D moment' but little did I know that those moments were the 1.0 lessons and I would say now I'm in the 2.0.

However, two years since I move jobs I can now say that I've learned a lot about myself (strange right? Shouldn't I know myself? guess not... ) and I have learned that it doesn't matter where you are in life, God is there and that is enough. A peace that He is in control. An assurance that I can be in a place where it may appear that I'm stagnant or moving backwards but as long as I am in His hands in His will that I am moving forward.

Friends have asked whether I like anything else other than hiking. Yes, I do love other outdoor sports but when I hike I feel the presence of God. I've learned so many life lessons and had many revelation moments when I hike.

During my recent hike up to Fansipan, Vietnam I realised that while I am in the Valley there are times where I can see the summit but there are moments where I can't see the summit. However, my eyes and heart keep looking up for I know that no matter how long the journey as long as I stay on path and keep moving I'll reach the summit. When I was at the summit apart from looking up and thanking God for getting me there, I took the 360 view in. I look down at the valleys that I was at and the journey that it took to reach the summit. The obstacles suddenly seem all worth it, I wasn't tired or breathless anymore. It was a Yay! Awesome! moment. Interesting though, I didn't want to stay at that top but the feeling is like. Time to scale the next one! Bring it on!

Then it struck me that is how I should view life. Don't just stand on one mountain top. Take it in enjoy it and then scale the next one! There is always something exciting with God so bring it on!

Sowing and Reaping

So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. -Gal 6:9-

For there must be a distance of time between sowing and reaping; men must not expect to reap as soon as they sow; and therefore should not be weary of sowing, nor impatient in waiting, though they do not see as yet the appearance of the fruits thereof; for in their season they will be seen and enjoyed.
